Abstract
This review provides an in-depth discussion on the recent advances of iron-cobalt-based electrocatalysts in the field of hydrogen production by water electrolysis, focusing on their catalytic roles in hydrogen-extraction reaction (HER) and oxygen-extraction reaction (OER). In the face of resource scarcity and cost issues of conventional noble metal catalysts, this paper emphasizes the urgency of developing efficient and economical OER catalysts and outlines the impact of preparation methods on catalyst structure and activity. The review also discusses strategies to enhance the performance and stability of the catalysts and assesses the advantages and challenges of these catalysts for practical energy applications. The paper concludes with an outlook on the development of iron-cobalt-based electrocatalysts in the clean energy sector, suggesting possible directions and challenges for future research, with the aim of providing guidance and inspiration for research on electrocatalysts for hydrogen production via water electrolysis.
