Abstract

This paper explores the integration of traditional and modern elements in Chinese folk song vocal music, examining its historical evolution, artistic characteristics, and modern innovations. Chinese folk songs originated from ancient ritual chants and developed through the Tang and Song dynasties. However, with the impact of globalization and social changes, the inheritance of these songs faces a crisis. This study discusses the artistic nuances of folk songs, emphasizing regional differences in melody, rhythm, and cultural significance, highlighting their importance as carriers of cultural heritage. The research analyzes the application of modern technology in preserving folk songs, such as digital archiving and new media platforms, which help in disseminating these songs more widely and attracting diverse audiences. The study also displays innovative practices where traditional folk songs are revitalized through contemporary music and film, enhancing their appeal and relevance in today’s cultural context. Additionally, the paper proposes strategies for promoting the survival and development of folk song vocal music, including strengthening educational initiatives, optimizing relevant support measures, and increasing public engagement. These strategies aim to foster a deeper connection with folk music traditions among younger generations and ensure their continued relevance. Ultimately, the integration of traditional and modern elements not only preserves but also invigorates Chinese folk song vocal music, suggesting a bright future for this cultural form in the modern era. Through detailed case studies and strategic recommendations, this paper provides valuable insights into the ongoing efforts to sustain and rejuvenate folk music heritage.
